In Regards To Myself (Single)
Label: Virgin
This is the first
single taken from the album ‘Define The Great Line’ released earlier this
year, the follow up to the extremely successful ‘They’re Only Chasing
Safety’. Anyone who’s into UnderOath will know that they’re passionate
Christians but don’t let that put you off, you would never tell by their
sound. ‘Screamo’, ‘Post-Hardcore’, ‘Emo’ there is so many names, call it
what you want but these guys are one of the best bands in their genre. One
of UnderOath’s best points for me has to be the shared vocals of Spencer
Chaimberlain’s screams and the passionate more melodic side of Aaron
Gillespie.
Due to the success of
the previous album I was expecting Gillespie to be the driving force for the
new material but how wrong I was. This single is Chaimberlain all the way.
‘In Regards To Myself’ is heavier than I expected with Chaimberalin’s
scream/growl from start to finish with only a small part for Gillespie. The
music is also heavier and just sounds amazing the whole package, this is the
first track off the album its not hard to work out why they chose this to
open it. This to me, is UnderOath at their best. Some UnderOath fans will
love this and some will miss the melodic, poppier sound that we had with
‘They’re Only Chasing Safety’.
The single is going to
be released as a DVD single and is out 27/11/06 to coincide with their slot
on the ‘Taste Of Chaos Tour’ (for dates see the Senses Fail review).

On 27th November
Virgin Records will release Underoath’s ‘In Regards To Myself’ single.
Few post-hardcore bands have
exploded onto the American mainstream as forcefully as Underoath. The
sextet’s recent album, ‘Define The Great Line,’ entered the US Billboard
charts at Number Two, shifting almost 100,000 copies in a single week. It
has now sold almost three times that amount. Underoath’s online presence is
even more impressive, with over 600,000 Myspace friends, and 8.4 million
unique plays on Purevolume – all thanks to an obsessive, ever-expanding army
of online fans.
Underoath are Spencer
Chamberlain, vocals; Aaron Gillespie, drums/vocals; Tim McTague, guitar;
Chris Dudley, keyboards; Grant Brandell, bass; James Smith, guitar. They
were formed in Tampa, Florida and met through the death metal and hardcore
scene.
‘In Regards To Myself’ is
the opening track from the band’s forthcoming album, ‘Define The Great
Line’, which builds on the success of their 2004 album, ‘They’re Only
Chasing Safety’. Where that album toyed with accessible melodies, their
latest opus is a work of epic scope and grandeur.
