Cardiff The Point 08-05-07

It didn’t come as much of a surprise that tonight The Point would play host to the majority of faces and names associated with our glorious football club. Stella and Red Stripe sold by the can and one the most talked about bands of the year so far tonight was always going to be one to remember.

The Point’s crowd tonight could quite easily have been used as a scene in the Nick Love film “Football Factory” (only better dressed) and a cocktail of sheer anticipation and controlled excitement was always going to make The Twang’s tales of “little fellas” and “milf’s” a success amongst the casual Cardiff crowd. I’m not sure about you but I’m fed up of reading reviews that label these midland boys as wanna be Mondays/Oasis/Roses etc. Yeah they draw influence just like any other band but what surely matters is what these lot are churning out and tonight its nothing but modern day anthems with more balls than our mate Buster.

Taking stage to a rowdy response it was the infectious tune of “The Neighbour” that was to head up the Twang’s assault on the usually “well behaved” Cardiff bay venue.  Double headed vocals courtesy of Phil Etheridge and mate Martin Saunders makes a Twang show something of a spectacle but none of this would be possible without the back drop to their tom foolery supplied by Stu Hartland (guitar), Jon Watkin (bass) and Matty Clinton (drums).

Forthcoming single “Either Way” an insight to the softer side of the band is delivered with anthemic tones and The Twang live show is at full pace keeping everyone inside interested in one thing only, (well most people anyway as it appeared some preferred the more hands on past time of a little fisty cuffs). A set list made up of the snarling tones of “Push the Ghosts” and “Ice Cream Sunday” already had the point in full lager swilling swagger only for debut single “Wide Awake” to take the roof off before the boys left the stage for probably a light refreshment of some sort, maybe a vimto and a dab of the forehead.

One things for sure, these boys have more drive than Bill Gates computer and it doesn’t take a genius to see that whether you like them or not, they’re loving every minute of being able travel the country leaving venues buzzing of Twang. The moody opening tones and jump along groove to get your swerve on to of “Cloudy Room” leaves a Cardiff crowd with only one thing on their lips, “let ya body groove in a cloudy room let ya body groove”

The Twang are definitely making a reputation for themselves but at least now its one they won’t have to change their name for!

Thanks to Martin, Stu, Matt and Jon for sparing a few minutes for some drunken rambling before leaving.
