“Wide Awake” B Unique Records

I think its pretty fair to say 2006 was the year of The Monkey but if this tune is anything to go by we’d better get used to seeing, hearing, and breathing, “The Twang”. A five piece band from Birmingham boasting two front men and a “flowered up” anthem that will provide the theme tune to football programmes and “Big” weekends all over the country for a long time to come.

It seems again that its Oasis we have to thank for The Twang as being their original inspiration but I’m sure these boys will inspire many, whether it be to squeeze another one in at half time or to make music themselves. There have been comparisons made to the Mondays and Stone Roses alike and to some extent I agree and although there isn’t anything new here, in The Twang there is a definite sound of freshness.

If the 90’s “casual” movement was your forte then these boys will reincarnate hangovers and weekends lost with a vengeance! Don’t be surprised to see this lot in the centre pages of The Sun with Noel, Serge and the newly named “Bingers” by the end of the year. I don’t think there’ll be a pub in the midlands that won’t be buzzing with “Wide Awake” on match day.
