Proof Of Youth

Label: Memphis Industries

If you can imagine a mix of Sonic Youth style guitars, 70’s car chase theme-tunes and 80’s female MC’s then you’ve probably already heard of Ian Parton’s The GO! Team.  The Brighton based six-piece released their 250k selling, Mercury Prize nominated album Thunder Lightning Strike in 2004 and Proof Of Youth is the much anticipated follow up.

If it was the double-drums, old-skool raps and cheerleader chants that you loved about the debut you’ll be happy to know nothing much has changed and opening track Grip Like A Vice will have you bouncing like you did the first time you heard them, along with recent single Doing It Right.  This record is not short of a few guests in the mix – including electro diva Solex, Brazilian funksters Bonde De Role and Hip-Hop legend Chuck-D.

From start to finish this album is impossible to sit still to, there so much going in is this record that you’ll find something new to like about with every listen.  Stand out tracks on this album include the already mentioned along with Titanic Vandalism, the horn-fuelled The Wrath Of Maurice and Flashlight Fight featuring Chuck-D, this almost sounds like a Public Enemy track with the vocals of Flavor Flav traded in for the The GO! Team’s cheerleader chants.
