SixOneSeven · Scott Giles Lead Vocals & Guitar · Nic Heslop Backing Vocals & Bass Guitar · Andrew Bell Backing Vocals & Drums.
The boys met and formed the band while they were pupils at St. Cyres School in Dinas Powys. They’ve been playing for around 7 years – 5˝ of these years playing under the name “Loco”. Having experienced (what seemed never ending) problems with a succession of bass guitarists (mainly through lack of dedication and commitment) the boys eventually realised that the best way forward was to play as a three piece. This led to Nic (lead guitar) retiring his beloved ‘Les Paul’ to the attic and switching to bass.
In May 2006 they finished a stint at Briar Bank Studios in Penarth and emerged with ‘Maps’, ‘Time’, ‘Loungin' and ‘Fall My Way’. With their new line-up and new tracks they decided to go the distance and change their name. After several suggestions they decided on SixOneSeven (the title of one of their earlier tracks).
As “Loco” they always attracted a lot of attention to their live gigs – so many people commented that there was ‘just something about them and their songwriting abilities’. They played the Kashmir Klub in London (on web TV) where Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden became an unexpected fan – they must have been OK because they were rebooked immediately. As “Loco” they played several London Area venues, attracting invitations to play other venues, such as The Attik in Leicester.
They are no strangers to TV having appeared on BBC 1, ITV, and a Sky TV shopping channel (which saw them sell more CDs than some girl called Britney Spears, although she got the Pepsi advert but the boys aren’t bitter)! As SixOneSeven they have played the The Borderline in London (personally invited by Alan McGee), The Rock Garden in London, and what feels like every venue in South Wales. They are certainly used to taking the stage and doing what they do best.
SixOneSeven have a long-and-growing list of gigs ahead of them including Liverpool, Nottingham, a number of London dates, and the usual venues in and around South Wales. This allows them to continue playing their much talked about and renowned live gigs, and to keep creating that buzz that they do so well.
With all three members totally dedicated it's no surprise to learn that this is the only thing that the boys ever envisage themselves doing. Their aim is to secure good professional management and that elusive recording contract. Although they have aroused the interest of some management and record companies over the years, they are still waiting for the right people to come along who they can work with (by ‘right people’ they mean less talk-and-promises and more action).
Their aim is to write material that sounds equally as good at a live venue as it would when played on a stereo. They seem to write material that lures you into humming along for the next month – turning up the radio, grabbing your partner or best mate and singing along like its Saturday night, every night! Their
influences are wide ranging with each member of the band having equal input
into the song writing process. Inspiration is drawn from all genres of
music, ranging from classic rock and soul, to today’s crop of bands – and
everything that goes in between. With such a wide range of influences and
inspirations, their material tends to be written naturally and soon evolves
into crowd favourites. SixOneSeven
really is everything to these boys, and with their attitude and
