Boss Tuneage, Retro series
Boss Tuneage have for years been releasing some classic albums of the past from The Spermbirds to Can’t Decide and their latest set of releases is no exception. Ipswich’s (uk) are next in line to get their full back catalogue re-released. The Stupids were a big name in hardcore/UKHC through the 80’s and influenced many bands since then they have been overlooked whereas other bands of the time such as Heresy have gone on to classic/legendary status, until now that is!
If you have not heard of The Stupids before you may of heard of singer Tommy Stupid as Drum and Bass artist Klute or Gizz Butt who later went on to play with The Prodigy. The Stupids brand of skatepunk is fast & thrashy with pop-punk melody and gave UKHC a place amongst an American dominated genre.
All releases are all digitally re-mastered and sounding better than ever on highly collectable Limited Edition Coloured Vinyl with gatefold sleeve packaging and CD Packaged with Digipack and 16-page booklet with special vinyl effect coloured CD (first 2000 copies only). The band are fully involved with photos and other things from their personal collection of memorabilia. It has taken four years to finish and will be available soon.
Violent Nun The Stupids legendary and collectable debut single, re-released on 12” format with 4 extra tracks from the same session. ·
Peruvian Vacation The Stupids legendary and collectable debut album, CD also contains 19 bonus tracks – including the 9 song unreleased “Mr Adult” session, the 3rd Jan 1985 demo and 3 unreleased from band’s legendary side project THE COOLEST RETARDS.
Retard Picnic The classic breakthrough STUPIDS album from 1986 contains 26 bonus tracks, including the unreleased flexi and album outtakes plus a full live show previously unreleased recorded in Washington DC Jan 1987.
The complete BBC Peel
sessions
Van Stupid/Frankfurter The Van Stupid and Frankfurter mini-albums from 1987 available on cd, including the Frankfurter demo and unreleased Frankfurter track.
Jesus Meets The Stupids The album that gave the band the most UK press coverage including being on the cover of the NME. Recorded in 1987 this was seen as the bands highpoint by many. CD also includes 7” Live To Rock EP, The sounds (which they also appeared on the cover of) magazine comp and unreleased studio track Buttum.
If you already have these from back in the day you’re a lucky person but it’s worth getting these for all the extras and to hear them like you haven’t heard them before. If you’ve note heard The Stupids and are into punk/hardcore then you need these in your collection. If you like this other UKHC bands worth checking out are Can’t Decide, Heresy (anything in the Boss Tuneage Retro Series), Cowboy Killers or Jailcell recipes.
