If you
have not yet heard of Social Distortion then it is about time you did.
Since the release of Mommy’s
Little Monster in 1983, Social Distortion have become Punk Rock legends.
What made SD different from most punk bands of the time and still to this
day is the country/western direction singer/guitarist Mike Ness took the
band. Having not lived the easiest life after being homeless, spending time
in prison and battling heroin addiction, it’s amazing how the guy can write
such powerful, hard-hitting tracks. Maybe this is what gave SD such
passion. SD’s songs tell tales of real life stories and give messages or
even warnings for life.
This CD comes complete with
a full history of the band, line-up changes and photos. If you have not
heard much SD before then this is a great way for new fans to start. This
greatest hits collection manages to pull together all the biggest
heart-on-sleeve songs from each SD album from Mommy’s Little Monster
up until 2005’s Sex, Love and Rock and Roll. Some might argue that
there are songs missing from this collection but this is a Greatest Hits not
a Best Of. From the fast paced early days the album starts with Another
State Of Mind and takes us to all the greatest SD moments of the last
few decades including the cover of Johnny Cash’s Ring Of Fire and
White Light, White Heat, White Trash’s When Angels Sing.
For already fans of SD there
is a brand new track, Far Behind. This is the SD we all know and
tale of Friendship gone wrong, this song is worth getting the CD for alone,
even if you already have the other tracks.
If you like punk rock new or
old this is a greatest hits collection you must have and is available from
June 25th. SD will soon be announcing some worldwide tour dates
in support of this, so watch this space for more info.
