“Stuck Between Stations”
Released May 7th (Vagrant)
I’m all for new music but if it isn’t broken then don’t fix it and The Hold Steady are living proof of such wise words. When the glow sticks have faded and the Emo kid’s hair straightners lay abandoned on top off the cupboard like an old Cliff Richard record, “Stuck Between Stations” taken off the bands UK debut “Boys and Girls in America” will still sound as classic and exciting as it does today. Good old fashioned Rock n Roll will always have its place amongst the new fads and its bands like this that make it so. Powerful opening riffs encouraged by a “Springsteen” piano make this tune an anthemic opener to one of the most “feel good” records I’ve heard in ages. A follow up to the addict/gambler’s tale of “Chips Ahoy” this song again shows that front man Chris Finch is one of the most exciting lyricists in music today. The Devil and John Berryman took a walk together They ended up on Washington talking to the river He said “I surrounded myself with doctors and deep thinkers but big heads with soft bodies make for lousy lovers” There was that night that we thought John Berryman could fly But he didn’t so he died. If classic sounding high energy Rock n Roll with a somewhat darker undertone that ticks your box this band are for you.by Neil Use the links below to hear some great podcasts from the band.
