This Is My Ship

Label:  Xtra Mile

This Is My Ship is the long awaited debut album from Teeside trio DARTZ!  Produced by Mark Williams, who has worked with the likes of Fightstar, Million Dead and Yourcodenameis:milo at the Battery Complex in London, this record is a gem.  Having already released two singles Once, Twice, Again and St. Petersburg and been on tour with Hot Club De Paris and Get Cape, Wear Cape, Fly you may very well have already heard these guys.  Not forgetting they were Steve Lamacq’s “Unsigned Band Of The Week” on his BBC 6 Music show.

From the opening track Network! Network! Network! You get a good idea of what the whole album is about, having previously been compared to bands from the DC scene of the early nineties it’s easy to see where this may have come from.  The whole album pretty much has the same sound from start to end but this is a good thing, great disjointed guitar licks, up-tempo drum-beats and catchy choruses all the way through, even parts to clap along to.  Stand out tracks for me being Cold holidays, Laser Eyes and the amazing Once, twice, Again! made this album stay in my stereo for quite some time (still there now).  Teaching Me To Dance features towards the end of this album which was the very first song DARTZ! Put together back in 2005.

Although there is not much variation in the sound on This Is My Ship they have this sound perfected and there is no need for anything else on this record when they do it so well.  If you’re into bands like Fugazi of The Futureheads then do yourself a favour and check out DARTZ! Due for release 12th Feb 2007.  To promote the release of this record DARTZ! Start a UK tour also on the 12th – check the guy’s myspace for dates.
