GET CAPE WEAR CAPE FLY

CHRONICALS OF A BOHEMIAN TEENAGER (ATLANTIC)

RELEASED SEPTEMBER 18TH

Stolen laptops, shows in car parks living rooms and other none discript venues in excess of 150 suggests that Get Cape Wear Cape Fly (aka Sam Duckworth) isn’t really in this for the fame.  Southend Sam has blended a unique style of folk music (yes folk music) with electronic beats, pianos, horns and strings to create one of the most refreshing albums to go to press in a long time.  Sam’s alias “Get Cape Wear Cape Fly” was apparently pulled from a computer game magazine. This coupled with Sam’s age (20) may lead people into to thinking this is just a geeky kid who spends most of his time stuck in his bedroom stealing cars and being chased by monsters.  Those of you that have already heard the album will know that this couldnt be further from the truth.

“Don’t let people think that just because your young your useless” suggests that Sam may have had problems getting his point across in the past. Now he’s found a way to air his views in such a way that only the stupid, or just ignorant can’t but help to sit up and take note.  Tales of escapism and tangles with bnp numb skulls only touch the surface of the content of this album.  Following the essex trail of Billy Bragg Sam mixes powerful message and experiences of every day life into songs that can only be described as effortless.  You’d have more chance eating a jam doughnut with out liking your lips than not singing along to this album.

“You dont have to be a coathanger for a corporation in a market thats lost the plot”  its content like this that says there’s alot more to Get Cape Wear Cape Fly than a slightly “emo” hair cut and an acoustic guitar.  The production of this record may have taken some of the rawness off the songs that were released last year but all the same this is powerful record by a modest lad with a talent and enthusiasm to put things right.  Sam seems to be growing in confidence all the time and with an album like this who can blame him.
