Wind Up Toys
Label: Fierce Panda
It’s been five years
since Milton Keynes fivepiece Capdown unleashed Pound For The Sound
and 5th Feb sees the release of Capdown’s third full-length
Wind Up Toys. Although there has been no album for so long this has not
effected the guys dedicated fanbase one bit! The guys proved this when they
managed to pull the biggest crowd at The Lock Up tent in Reading last year.
Having not really
listened to Capdown for some time I was expecting this album to carry on
where the last where the last one left off, how wrong I was. This records
seems to have a totally different sound but you still know it’s Capdown.
One of the first things you notice is the great production thanks to Hundred
Reasons’ Larry Hibbit. The general sound with this record is much less Ska
than we’ve come to expect from Capdown however the band do manage to keep
the ska rhythms with the meaty rock/punk sound. But don’t worry there still
a few ska classics on here like keeping Up Appearances, Community
Service and the title track Wind Up Toys. For me the best
moments on this album are the opening track Truly Dead and the short
burst of Thrash Tuesday which could have been taken right off
Civil Disobedients.
On the whole this is a
great release and a definite step in the right direction, its good to hear
how the bands sound has progressed in the last five years. I’m sure most
Capdown fans will rush out and get this no matter what the review says. But
of your into punk or ska and not familiar with these guys then you should
be! Capdown are going to be touring through feb to promote this album and
here is where you can find them.
