Nacho Libre

It's Mexico and the orphans are starving, they've had nothing but horrible gruel to eat for months. The films hero Ignacio the children's cook dons a mask and some blue stretchy pants and becomes NACHO the "Luchador" (wrestler) to fight for prize money so the kids can eat salad.

Jack Black brings life to the films title character the heroic Nacho sporting some fuzzy hair, a comedy moustache, a bucket load of fake tan and a comedy Mexican accent. Along with his tag team partner Esqueleto "The Skeleton" played by Hector Jimenez they give us hilarious in the ring antics. It's like the WWE meets Monty Python.

Now I did laugh allot when I saw the trailer for the first time and I hoped the trailer was just a taste of things to come. Unfortunately most of the laughs are in the trailer. Jack Black is a very funny man and he is the life and sole of this movie and if it wasn't for him this film wouldn't work. There are some moments of true brilliance and mainly around the sub-story of Nacho trying to woo the beautiful nun Sister Encarnacion. Especially amused by him asking her if she would like to join him for some toast and while showing off his athletic attributes by clenching his but cheeks in his tight white trousers.

This comedic tale was written by Mike White and Jarred Hess. It is not the first Mike White has worked with Jack Black as he had previously written the very funny comedy School of Rock. Not only did Jarred Hess co-write this film he also directed it, he was also the man who brought us the hilarious Napoleon Dynamite. With this pairs comic history I was a little disappointed that the film didn't reach their earlier works standard. Even with this in mind your going to laugh and should see this film.

I'm going to finish this with a quote from our hero, he is talking to one of the young orphans who has discovered Nacho in his room dressed in his wrestling gear.....

...Nacho - "Chancho, when you are a man, sometimes you wear stretchy pants in your room... Just for fun".
